Deku Explained: Origins, Powers, and Character Growth

What is Deku?

Deku, whose actual name is Izuku Midoriya, is the leading hero of the famous anime and manga show My Hero Academia. Being born in the society where people are not unusual super heroes having their own super powers which are called Quirks, Deku falls into the establishment as one of the few people with no own special powers. Regardless of that, he has a dream; to become the greatest hero like his role idol All Might. Several months later, during the hard training, Deku used the DNA of All might and inherited officially One For All. This enormous power was not easy to control when it comes to its management. First he was only able to enjoy a small fraction of its power without harm to himself. Deku slowly developed the ability to manage with the power because of his hard work, endurance, and endless fights.

 

The changing powers of Deku.

At first Deku could only utilize raw strength but later, he started to gain access to the powers of the other users of One For All. Such new powers are:

Blackwhip- A dark energy whip which is used to travel and to fight.

Float- A levitation power that enables Deku to take flight in the middle of a battle.

Danger Sense- A sixth sense that would tell him when dangers are at hand.

Smokescreen–The emits smoke to conceal the enemy.

Fa Jin Stores dynamic energy and bursts it out.

Gearshift -Modifies the velocity of things and movement and is even able to resist inertia.

All these powers are associated with issues. A lot of the story is devoted to Deku learning each of them one by one, which enriches his growth as a hero.

The Ascent of a Real Her

My hero academia focuses on the development of the character of Deku. He is a shy and uncertain person but through time he starts to be a successful leader who is not self-centered. He does not only know how to fight, but to inspire others. Compassion, determination and empathy give him respect among his friends as well as rivals. Deku does not lose his values of protecting others, not giving up, and always doing what is right even when the situation is dark and when odds are against him.

Deku creates good relationships with his classmates such as Bakugo, Uraraka, and Todoroki. His skills of emphathy and being able to relate to other people in their suffering is one of the key factors that helps to unite heroes and defeats the conflict between them. His friendship with All Might is particularly heavy, going from fandom and hero-music to teacher and student. Such relationships are important in determining who Deku is to be.
